The American Patriot's Bible

I had long been looking for a nice New King James Version and found it in this Bible. Almost every page contains some small snippet from American history that shows the Bible’s influence throughout the history of America. Also included are several full-color glossy inserts that contain articles on different aspects of American History and the Bible. Most intriguing to me were the sections which showed what portions of Scripture each President placed his hand over when taking the Oath of Office.

The New King James Version is a magnificent translation that maintain the regality and magnificence of the English language while yet updating the language into present day terms. Altogether, there are 254 articles included in with the Biblical text, each one a wealth of information in American history. My parents are planning on borrowing this Bible next year to use in my younger brother’s seventh grade American History curriculum.

Also included are wonderful full-color glossy records pages, that allows one to record one’s ancestry and progeny, making this a great Family Bible to hand down throughout the generations. Overall, this is a great Bible that I would definitely recommend if one is looking for a nice NKJV.

My only minor criticisms are that it would be nice to have Christ’s words in red (just my personal preference there) and to have some type of tabs to make turning to the appropriate page/book easier. But these are only minor issues.
The major issue comes (as other reviews on Amazon have noted) with the staunchly nationalistic view it gives Christianity. Of course, this can be expected, and to some extent I think there has been some hyperbole and jumping to conclusions regarding the issue. I do not think that this Bible actively seeks to make Christianity seem the national religion. But at times, that is precisely how it comes across.

If one comes to this special Bible with an open mind, we can see both the good points and the bad. In my opinion, the good articles outweigh the bad ones. If you are looking for a NKJV Bible and looking for some insight into American history—and you are capable of critical reading—then I believe you will find this Bible an interesting resource. 3/5
