Thomas Nelson's Illustated Guide to Religions

For one man to have written the Thomas Nelson Illustrated Guide to World Religions is mindboggling. This in and of itself has its pros and cons. First, the tone, pacing, and emphasis throughout the entire book is consistent. These are the pros. The cons lie in that it also brings in the author's personal opinions and prejudices. That is, while the single authorship encourages consistency and uniformity, it cases it also hinders objectivity. That being said, Dr. Beverly does do an amazing job at overviewing and detailing the various religions.

The foundations of each religion are well-detailed, with more detail being given to some religions over others. It was obvious that the author wrote more about those religions he was more familiar with rather than whether the religion actually deserved that kind of length.

Overall, this is a handy reference guide that I am sure will serve me well.
